Free Training for ‘Citizen Journalists’

As you may know, Radio Boise is now on the air. As part of its commitment to providing public affairs programming, our community radio station will be holding classes for “citizen journalists” at locations around Boise in the coming months. The intent is to give people enough information about newsgathering and radio production in a few hours that they can go out into their neighborhoods, campuses, classrooms, offices, etc., and create news stories to be broadcast on Radio Boise 89.9FM.

The first citizen journalist training will be held on Saturday, March 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the building at 1520 N. 12th, Hyde Park. Please let your community members, co-workers, students, friends, clients, constituents, group, business associates and/or neighbors know. It’s free, and everyone is encouraged to bring ideas for stories they’d like to cover. News teams will be formed that very day!

More information is available at http://radioboise.org/newsexperience and on Facebook at KRBX News Experience 1. There’s a survey to complete before coming that would help us know what people are interested in, too. Please spread the word!

News Release: Influential Women Leaders to Speak at Ready to Lead

Debbie Walsh, Executive Director of the Center for American Women and Politics (CAWP), and Christine Jahnke, author of “The Well Spoken Woman,” are about to shake up Idaho women and encourage them to start making some changes in the state. The dynamic pair will each address Idaho women about the importance of diversity in leadership positions at Go Lead Idaho’s “Ready to Lead” conference on March 3.

As the director of CAWP, Walsh is frequently called upon by the media for information and comment, and speaks to a variety of audiences around the country on topics related to women’s political participation. Walsh has led the Center’s extensive work with women officeholders and organized more than a dozen national conferences for women officials.

Jahnke is a Washington, DC based speech coach, who has prepped significant women leaders, including First Lady Michelle Obama. She has coached more women candidates and elected officials than any other trainer, and regularly works with senior leaders in business, government and nonprofits.

In addition to Walsh and Jahnke, the conference will feature other prominent women from Idaho and cover topics like identifying your passion, increasing your net worth, work-life balance issues, running for office and more.

“We believe that women add a different perspective and depth of experience to decision making. To that end, we encourage women throughout the state to get involved with Go Lead Idaho,” said Karianne Fallow, Co-Chair of Go Lead Idaho. “Our goal is to inspire the women of this state to engage in leadership roles in public, private and non-profit organizations in order to become an integral part of the decisions that affect our neighbors and communities.”

“Ready to Lead” is Go Lead Idaho’s second annual leadership development conference for women interested in running for public, private and non-profit sector leadership. Go Lead Idaho is comprised of professionals who are committed to engaging women in leadership and civic participation through active involvement in the political process, public office, public policy or advocacy.

The conference is scheduled from 8 am to 5 pm at the new Concordia University School of Law in downtown Boise. Registration is $85 and includes a light breakfast, lunch and snacks, as well as a copy of Jahnke’s “The Well Spoken Woman.”
